Delete Infected And Locked Files With Remove With Batch
Windows File Protection (WFP) prevents programs from replacing or removing critical Windows operating system files. WFP insures that Programs do not overwrite these files because of their critical importance. Protecting these files prevents problems with the operating system. While WFP protects critical system files that are installed as part of Windows (e.g. dll, ocx, and sys extensions) there are malicious programs that can replicate this behaviour and appear to be one of these protected files. There are also common application files, like that of word processors that can be infected by malware. In our previous post we taught you how to remove these files from the command prompt. However, sometimes it is necessary to overwrite these files and many users might prefer a simpler method of removing them. Remove With Batch is a portable and lightweight application that allows deleting locked files. This incudes the aforementioned files, as well as files that are hidden or locked by the Windows Explorer on a temporary or permanent basis. For example, a file that may be currently being used or might be considered as being used due to an active malware utilizing it. Remove With Batch provides a simple GUI for deleting, overwriting and quickly checking the path of a specific locked or hidden file. To get started, launch the portable .exe file, click on the Explore A File button and select a file to delete. This will add the file to the selection. Make sure that you run Remove With Batch from an Administrator account.
Now run the .bat file pre-selected with the setup package. This will open a command prompt that will have the pre-selected file ready for deletion. There will be a prompt asking you to proceed with Y or halt the process with N. Type Y and hit Enter to delete the file. If you think you have selected the wrong file, enter N or close the command prompt. This way you can easily select infected and locked files from the GUI and delete them forcibly.
If you would like to overwrite or see the file path, you can do so from the Write A Path or Show A Path buttons (after selecting a file from Explore A File).
Remove With Batch allows easy deletion, overwriting and path exploration of the most stubborn files (including malware or malware infected files). It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
